Role of a Guru

Posted By: Vasishta

The word guru comes from the ancient Sanskrit language and has two syllables - gu and ru. Gu denotes spiritual ignorance. Ru denotes the radiance of knowledge that dispels ignorance. A guru then dispels spiritual ignorance. A guru is like a mirror.

The guru does not bring about the change in you. Instead, the guru allows you to see “the real you.” The mirror of self-awareness surrounded with the light of knowledge projects you. The pure mind of the guru reflects the thoughts of those who come in front. The stillness of the guru’s mind is what makes the difference. It is abundant, yet clear. Like how you can see the reflection of your face in pristine waters.

As you look at yourself through the guru, you dispel the ignorance that has crept into your life.
